Algemene informatie:

( Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia) www.encyclopedia.com/article-1G2-3406700718/weavers-ploceidae.html.

English:

De genus Ploceus are typical weavers and the largest bird genera with more than 60 species by the "true" weavers (Ploceinae) living in Africa.

An examination of skull characteristics suggest that there are several distinct groups within this genus and new studies may lead to it being broken up into several distinct genera. The relationships between the African and Asian Ploceus weavers are not clear and they have evidently been separated for a long time. ( Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia) www.encyclopedia.com/article-1G2-3406700718/weavers-ploceidae.html

The males are different in the breeding season. The females remain an unobtrusive colour. The males and females outsite breeding season and females of different Ploceus species are difficult to determinate by an untrained eye.

A trained eye will identified the different species of the females by e.g. the eye color.
